customer feedback:
"Predicting the future of scientific animal work, it's something not even our science director was willing to really look out a decade and say where we'd be in number of animals...
So we felt if we kept it more variable versus fixed, we wouldn't be looking back 6 or 7 years from now seeing this room of millions of dollars worth of equipment that isn't getting used much."

Disposable Caging: Planning Flexibility

Designing any animal facility is fraught with uncertainty about the future. Forecasting both the size your animal program and the type of animals you will be supporting in the future can be very challenging.

Innovive Disposable Rodent IVC System is the most flexible rodent housing solution available today.
It provides you with the opportunity to scale up and down the size of your facility at any point or even convert it at a later date.

Rodent caging typically represent the biggest share of animal housing in most facilities, which means that it consumes the highest percentage of supporting infrastructure.
Innovive Disposable IVC System eliminates/ reduces rodent cagewash operations, which saves valuable space and resources. More importantly, it allows you to keep your option for the future open to whatever may come.

1. MOUSE AND RAT FACILITIES:

The most capital intensive portion of maintaining a colony of mice or rats is the cage wash. It can represent 25%-35% of total construction costs and square feet. Once the cage wash is built it becomes very disruptive and costly to make changes at a later date, resulting in two possible scenarios:
  • The cage wash is not large enough to meet future demand. In this case support operations become strained, the ability to attract new researchers is compromised and you need to expand or build a new cage wash.
  • The cage wash is larger than ever required. This scenario avoids the above issues, but requires a greater outlay of capital and an allocation of physical space than is actually required. The result is over-spending, wasted resources and underutilized assets all of which could have been used for other productive purposes.

2. MULTI-SPECIES FACILITIES:

Many laboratory animal programs house not only mice and rats, but support other species as well.
The Innovive Disposable Rodent Caging System lowers the amount of fixed infrastructure required overall.
The washroom can be sized according to the forecasted requirement for species other than mice and rats, reducing the amount of guesswork for planners. The resulting animal housing facility will cost less to build and require less space. The ability to add mouse/rat capacity in the future is as simple as ordering more Innovive IVC racks.
