Innovive Stimulus Funding Update - Animal Facility Grants Available

A major allocation of funds has been made available under RFA-RR-09-007 (G20 Program) to renovate, repair, or improve core facilities.
A core facility is defined as a centralized shared resource that provides access to instruments, technologies or services, as well as expert consultation to investigators.

The major objective of this funding is to upgrade core facilities to support PHS funded biomedical and/or behavioral research.
For full details of this opportunity please visit the NIH site. made in USA

Innovive single-use ventilated caging technology is uniquely positioned to meet the funding criteria set by the act.
See table below for highlights:

Key Criteria for Project Selection How the INNOVIVE System
can support your application:
1. Project Time to Completion

The act specifies preference for "Quick Start Activities" in order to maximize stimulus effect. Preference will be given to projects that can be started and completed expeditiously.

Deadline for application is September 17th, 2009.

The Innovive System eliminates requirements associated with a washroom, speeding your project planning and time to project completion.

2. Impact on American Economy

Projects must stimulate the economy by creating and/or maintaining American jobs.
Additionally, the act specifies a "Buy America" clause where the use of American iron, steel, and manufactured goods for the projected are required.

Innovive Inc. is a California-based company that manufactures and assembles racks and caging in the USA.
The vast majority of our raw materials- including PETE polymer- is sourced in the United States from American manufacturers.

3. Cost Efficiency

Budget, vendor quotes, and the requested period of support must be fully justified and reasonable in relation to the proposed project.

The Innovive System has a proven track record reducing the upfront capital costs and ongoing operating cost for animal care programs of all sizes and applications.

4. Restriction on New Building

New construction or activities that would change the footprint of an existing facility (e.g. relocation of exterior walls, roofs, floors, or the attachment of fire escapes) will NOT be funded.

The Innovive System eliminates or greatly reduces the need for a washroom in your animal facility.

Converting that freed-up space to more animal housing, or another purpose can increase your science program capacity without altering your footprint.

5. Sustainable Design

Life-cycle cost, environmental impact, occupant health and safety, security, and productivity will all be assessed.

Innovive System can help you green your vivarium (see below):

5.1. Energy efficiency. The Innovive System dramatically reduces the amount of energy required to operate a vivarium by eliminating all utilities associated with washing and sterilizing the cages.
5.2 Water conservation. The Innovive System eliminates the enormous volume of water used in traditional cagewash and sterilization operations.
5.3 Enhancement of indoor environmental quality. Ultra-lightweight caging provides great ergonomic benefit for animal technicians. Ventilated racks provide excellent allergen protection and comfort for all employees.
Additionally, a no-washroom environment means workers are not exposed to the dust and dander typical in that environment.
5.4 Low-emitting materials. Our PETE caging and stainless steel racks are made of non-emitting materials.
Our cages are Bisphenol A free.
5.5 Protection of indoor air quality during renovation. No washroom / less construction.
5.6 Reducing the environmental impact of materials. Innovive caging is specifically designed for recycling. Furthermore, Innovive offers recycling services on used cages (subject to minimum volumes).
5.7 Maximizing recycled and bio-based content Innovive is dedicated to achieving the highest possible (+50%) post-consumer materials content in our caging.
5.8 Construction waste reuse and recycling. Less construction /less waste.
5.9 Minimizing use of ozone depleting compounds. Elimination or reduction of washroom activities yields a significant reduction in energy consumption. Innovive is further contributing to the equation by implementing solar-powered production for the majority of its caging.
5.10 Minimum requirements set by LEED or Green Globes Lower energy calculations and HVAC offsets when washroom is eliminated.
5.11 Speed the translation of basic research to treatments and cures. Reduced operational steps, proven high-performance, increased flexibility and reliability of the Innovive System ensures that Research is conducted as efficiently as possible.
